October 17, 2018 – Grandma Bessie’s Scrappy 4-Patch Quilts

1. Marigold by Patricia Ritter and Leisha Farnsworth

2. Mary Ann by Christy Dillon

3. Taz by Margaret Stone

4. Paisley Flower by Bethanne Nemesh

5. Villa in Bloom by Patricia Ritter and Leisha Farnsworth

This customer’s grandmother, Bessie, pieced the scrappy four-patch blocks using her treadle machine. The customer combined these blocks with solid off-white blocks to make a lap-size quilt for herself and four siblings. Each quilt was individualized by using different colored fabric for the borders, backing and binding. To maintain the vintage look, all of the quilts were stitched with pearl (off white) thread using unique designs for each one. The first quilt (blue border) was stitched using the Marigold design by Patricia Ritter and Leisha Farnsworth (Urban Elementz). The second quilt (dark pink border) was stitched using the Mary Ann design by Christy Dillon (My Creative Stitches). The third quilt (light pink border) was stitched using the Taz design by Margaret Stone (Intelligent Quilting). The fourth quilt (purple border) was stitched using the Paisley Flower design by Bethanne Nemesh (Digi-Tech Designs). The fifth quilt (red border) was stitched using the Villa in Bloom design by Patricia Rittter and Leisha Farnsworth (Urban Elementz).

October 12, 2018 – Mother’s Hand Pieced Tumbling Blocks

This heirloom quilt was hand pieced by the customer’s mother several years ago. She combined colorful, scrappy tumbling blocks with off-white diamond shaped blocks. The quilt was stitched with white thread using the Agave design by Patricia Ritter (Urban Elementz).

October 7, 2018 – Custom T-Shirt Quilt

This custom t-shirt quilt was commissioned by a customer who was an avid marathon runner. She requested a more artistic style rather than a traditional block design with sashing between blocks. The blocks are were cut in multiples of 4″ and ranged in size from 4″ x 4″ up to 16″ x 16″ and incorporated designs from the fronts, backs, pockets, and sleeves of the shirts. The backing is a red tonal fabric. The quilt was stitched with silver thread using the Star Struck Sharp design by Christy Dillon (My Creative Stitches).

September 18, 2018 – Baby Memory Quilts

These two small quilts were pieced using infant items (onesies, bibs, footed pajamas, hooded sweatshirts, receiving blankets, etc.). Both quilts have pieces from the same item. The front of an item was used on one of the quilts and the back was used on the other.  The four-patch blocks were pieced using squares from each item. The receiving blankets were used for large blocks and squares for the four-patch blocks. Pockets and openings (zippered, snapped or buttoned) were sewn closed. However, things like the giraffe’s tail and sweater buttons were retained for a 3-D effect. The quilts each had gray backing, although one had dots and the other had dimples. All items, except the receiving blankets, were stabilized before use. The quilts were stitched with gray thread using an overall meander (stipple).

August 31, 2018 – Winter Through the Window

This lap size, window pane quilt was pieced using fussy-cut blocks. This quilt will make a great table cover because it is actually rectangular horizontally. The quilt was stitched with shiny gold colored thread using the Snow Winds design by Barbara Becker (Digi-Tech Designs).
